Job summary

Shire Oak Academy in Walsall seeks a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join the Internal Alternative Provision INSPIRE team. You will support targeted interventions and act as a key adult for INSPIRE students within a trauma-informed setting.

The role emphasises SEND/SEMH CPD and collaboration with the IAP to promote inclusive education and student wellbeing across the academy community.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
  • Evidence of CPD in SEND/SEMH/communication needs.
  • Experience supporting SEMH, anxiety, or communication needs.
  • Experience leading interventions or small-group learning.
  • Experience supporting students with EHCPs or support plans.
  • Experience in trauma-informed/attachment-aware environments.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted small group and 1:1 interventions across subjects to meet student needs.
  • Act as a key adult and trusted figure for INSPIRE students.
  • Champion inclusive practice and student voice within the IAP and wider school community.
  • Engage in CPD linked to SEMH, autism, anxiety, trauma, and inclusive education.

Key responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning Support
  • Deliver targeted small group and 1:1 interventions across a range of subject areas and social/emotional needs, in line with student needs.
Student Support and Pastoral Care
  • Act as a key adult and trusted figure for INSPIRE students.
Inclusion and Safeguarding
  • Champion inclusive practice and student voice within the IAP and wider school community.
Professional Development
  • Engage in regular CPD linked to SEMH, autism, anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, and inclusive education.

Pay range:Scale: Grade 6 (15-23) | Actual: £26,795- £30,730 | FTE: £31,015-£35,570

Qualifications and Skills:
  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in SEND/SEMH/communication needs.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, anxiety, or communication needs
  • Experience leading interventions or small-group learning
  • Experience supporting students with EHCPs or support plans.
  • Experience of working in a trauma-informed and/or attachment-aware environment
