Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Health Care Support Worker to join inpatient mental health nursing teams. You will work with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, person-centred care that promotes recovery and independence.

The role offers training, development opportunities and a chance to contribute to the lives of adults and older adults in inpatient mental health care. NHS Scotland benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Educated to, or working towards, SVQ3, SCQF Level 6 or equivalent relevant experience.
• Completion of a health, mental health or social care programme, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of mental health nursing care and mental health issues.
• Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using digital technology, information systems and basic software applications.
• Ability to build positive working relationships with patients, carers and colleagues.
• Ability to follow instructions, work independently and demonstrate the values and behaviours expected within the HCSW Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality care and support to patients as part of an agreed person-centred care plan.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of patients.
• Monitor, observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Support patients with activities of daily living, therapeutic activities and recovery-focused interventions.
• Promote a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment that upholds dignity, respect and equality.
• Contribute to risk assessment and risk management by identifying and escalating concerns appropriately.
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to policies, procedures and the HCSW Code of Conduct.
