Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution is seeking three Innovation Project Managers/Engineers to join our Innovation team. The role supports a portfolio of research, development and capability-scale-up projects to transform how we operate the electricity network.

You will build capabilities for the future, working across internal teams and external partners, with hybrid offices and travel as needed. The role requires a strong PM/engineering foundation and a proactive problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

• Degree in an engineering or technical discipline (preferred), or significant experience in distribution network investment or operations.
• Experience managing complex projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience with NIA and SIF framework (not essential).
• Understanding of UK electricity transmission and distribution assets and related legislation.
• Excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities; able to work under pressure.
• Willingness and ability to travel across all licence areas; full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Planning, development and delivery of innovation and roll out projects of all sizes and scopes.
• Management of R&D and capability roll out projects per Ofgem governance and NGED policies.
• Assist colleagues in internal NGED teams to develop, trial, disseminate and adopt solutions.
• Lead funding applications from Ofgem innovation incentive schemes and other sources.
• Represent NGED at national level in ENA, Ofgem and Government meetings.
• Develop and review NGED policies relating to innovation for regulatory compliance.
• Prepare detailed project plans, cost-benefit analyses, progress and regulatory reporting.
• Mentor and coach other staff members.
