Job summary

Sky is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support and improve our lab environments. You will work across Windows/Linux systems, VMs, networking, and automation to enhance reliability and efficiency.

You will apply AI and automation to streamline workflows, collaborate with engineering teams, and contribute to site lab activities at our Brentwood office. Hybrid work and hands-on lab focus define the role.

Qualifications

• Current hands-on commercial experience in infrastructure, DevOps or systems engineering.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Practical experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management, particularly Ansible or similar tooling.
• Good working knowledge of Linux and Windows environments and virtual machine platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring/observability tools such as Prometheus.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with Jira or similar work-tracking tools.
• Willingness to work hands-on in a lab environment and apply AI/automation to workflows.

Role/Team overview

Join our infrastructure engineering team supporting the lab environments that enable the development and testing of our products. You'll work across infrastructure automation, configuration management, monitoring, virtualisation and hands-on lab engineering, helping make our environments more reliable, standardised and efficient. This is a practical, collaborative role where you'll work with technologies such as Ansible, Windows, Linux and Prometheus, while exploring how AI and automation can simplify operational workflows and improve the way we manage our infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Support, maintain and improve lab infrastructure, including Windows and Linux systems, virtual machines, networking and associated infrastructure.
• Develop infrastructure automation and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, reducing repetitive provisioning, configuration, validation and operational activities.
• Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure health and connectivity, using observability technologies such as Prometheus to improve reliability and operational visibility.
• Explore AI and automation opportunities to improve engineering workflows, standardisation and operational efficiency.
• Support hands-on lab activities and collaborate with engineering teams, including rack equipment installation, patching, fibre and Cat6 cabling, while tracking engineering activities through Jira.

What you'll bring

Essential criteria:

• Relevant current hands-on commercial experience in infrastructure, DevOps or systems engineering.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Current practical experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management, particularly Ansible or similar deployment tooling.
• Good working knowledge of Linux and Windows environments and virtual machine platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus.
• Strong infrastructure troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience using work-tracking tools such as Jira or similar.
• Willingness to work hands-on in a lab environment and enthusiasm for applying AI and automation to operational workflows.

Desirable skills and experience:

• Previous experience working in an engineering, test or laboratory environment.
• Experience with physical infrastructure, racks, networking, fibre or Cat6 cabling.
• Broader experience in infrastructure standardisation, operational tooling or process improvement.

How you'll work

We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are 2 days in the office per week.

Brentwood - From developing and testing the latest products, to building cutting-edge software, our Sky Labs office in Brentwood is our home of innovation. Onsite you'll find a range of facilities and spaces to work and connect, including a café offering hot meals and snacks. We're based right in the heart of Brentwood, just a 10-minute walk from the train station which has regular trains to London Liverpool Street. If cycling is more up your street, there's bike racks and showers onsite. If driving, there's onsite parking available and further car parks a short walk away.
