Job summary

Hamilton Barnes seeks a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to design, migrate and support enterprise virtualisation, storage and hybrid cloud environments. You’ll work hands-on with VMware vSphere/VCF, NetApp/Dell EMC storage, and cloud platforms across Azure and AWS, planning complex migrations with minimal disruption.

The role covers disaster recovery design and testing, backup tooling, identity and networking, plus Windows 11 rollouts where applicable.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in enterprise infrastructure engineering.
• Strong VMware expertise including vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T, and VCF.
• Experience with enterprise storage platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC, IBM).
• Migra­tion and DR in Azure/AWS environments.
• Scripting/automation with PowerShell or Ansible.
• Windows Server, Active Directory, DFS.
• Backup and DR tooling experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and upgrade VMware vSphere/VCF environments.
• Lead migration projects between platforms (VMware to Nutanix, Azure, AWS).
• Manage enterprise storage estates and capacity planning.
• Own disaster recovery design and testing for on‑prem and cloud.
• Administer backup platforms and resolve issues.
• Support hybrid identity and networking (AD, DFS/DFS-R, DNS, VPNs, firewalls).
• Lead Windows 11/end‑user computing rollouts and Citrix/AVD estate management.
• Produce design documentation, upgrade plans, and reporting.
• Provide 3rd/4th‑line support and escalation.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and upgrade VMware vSphere/VCF environments (vCenter, ESXi, NSX‑T, vSAN), including firmware and version upgrade planning
• Lead migration projects between platforms (VMware ? Nutanix ? Azure ? AWS), including large‑scale VM and application moves
• Manage enterprise storage estates (NetApp, Dell EMC, IBM, Isilon or equivalent) - health checks, capacity planning, and platform refreshes
• Own disaster recovery design and testing across on‑prem and cloud (Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Nutanix DR, or equivalent)
• Administer backup platforms (Commvault, NetBackup, or equivalent) and resolve job/media issues
• Support hybrid identity and networking: Active Directory, DFS/DFS‑R, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers
• Where applicable, lead Windows 11/end‑user computing rollouts (Autopilot, Intune, MECM) and Citrix/AVD estate management
• Produce design documentation, upgrade plans, and management reporting for stakeholders
• Provide 3rd/4th‑line support and act as technical escalation point

Skills/Must Have:

• 10+ years in enterprise infrastructure engineering, ideally with SAN/storage and virtualisation depth
• Strong VMware expertise: vSphere, vSAN, NSX‑T, VCF upgrade/design experience
• Enterprise storage platform experience (NetApp, Dell EMC, IBM, or similar)
• Cloud platform experience (Azure and/or AWS) including migration and DR
• Scripting/automation (PowerShell, Ansible, or equivalent)
• Windows Server, Active Directory, DFS
• Backup and DR tooling experience

Desirable Skills:

• Citrix/EUC and Windows 11 deployment experience (Autopilot, Intune, MECM)
• Terraform, Bicep, or other IaC tooling
• Nutanix experience
• Relevant certifications: VMware VCP, AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure (AZ‑800/900/140), Citrix CCA‑V

Contract Details:

• Contract Type: 6-month contract (Outside IR35)
• Location: Remote

Salary:

• £400-£500 per day
