Job summary

British Steel is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to administer and enhance our Nutanix platform and supporting infrastructure. You will monitor, troubleshoot and resolve complex issues to ensure high service levels, while managing backup, disaster recovery, and lifecycle management of servers and storage.

The role requires automation experience with PowerShell and strong networking knowledge. You will collaborate with EUC, Network, Security and Development teams to deliver resilient IT

Qualifications

• Experience administering enterprise server and infrastructure platforms across Windows Server and Red Hat Linux environments.
• Experience administering enterprise virtualisation platforms, ideally including Nutanix and VMware.
• Experience supporting server, storage and compute infrastructure in a high-availability environment.
• Experience managing enterprise backup and recovery solutions, ideally using NetBackup, Veeam or Commvault.
• Strong experience administering Microsoft cloud technologies including Entra ID, Intune and Exchange Online.
• Experience managing endpoint deployment, configuration, compliance and lifecycle management across enterprise device estates.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and core infrastructure services.
• Experience monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure issues within a complex enterprise environment.
• Experience developing and maintaining automation solutions using PowerShell.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and enhance our Nutanix virtualisation platform and supporting infrastructure services.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues, ensuring high levels of service availability and performance.
• Manage backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions, regularly validating resilience and recovery capabilities.
• Support the lifecycle management of server, storage and infrastructure platforms, including upgrades, patching and capacity planning.
• Develop and maintain automation, standardisation and operational processes to improve the efficiency and reliability of infrastructure services.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of infrastructure solutions that align with security, operational and business requirements.
• Work collaboratively with EUC, Network, Security and Development teams to support integrated technology services and project delivery.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures.
• Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices across our IT function.
• Participate in infrastructure projects and continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance services and technologies.
