SmartSourcing Ltd. seeks an IT Operations professional to maintain on‑premise infrastructure and gradually support cloud activities as the business moves cloudward. You will manage AD/Azure AD, Windows Server, storage, security integration and DR planning from a primarily on‑prem setup near Salisbury.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in IT operations, ITIL v4, and strong scripting and monitoring skills. Training funding is available, with a 2 days/week on‑site arrangement and scope for growth.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in IT Operations with Windows and storage focus.
• ITIL v4 Foundation knowledge and practical use.
• Proficient in PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Strong networking fundamentals and security awareness.
• Experience with monitoring, backup and DR strategies.

Responsabilités

• Oversee AD, Azure AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and core services.
• Maintain Windows Server environments (physical/virtual).
• Manage NAS/SAN storage and backup/DR processes.
• Collaborate with security to patch, harden and protect systems.
• Monitor UK on‑prem infrastructure performance and availability.
• Apply IAM best practices including RBAC and MFA.
• Ensure ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and NIST compliance.

Firstly, before we begin ideally, you will hold active SC clearance. If you don’t the client will put you through clearance if you have lived in the UK for a minimum of 5 consecutive years prior to the application.

The Role

Initially this an on-premise focused role supporting all the on-premise infrastructure, servers and applications. Going forward, you will also be a need to support and assist in cloud activities as the business moves to a more cloud focused organisation.

Primary Duties include:

• Oversee Active Directory, Azure AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and other core infrastructure services.
• Maintain and optimise Windows Server environments (physical and virtual).
• Manage and maintain storage systems including NAS and SAN.
• Work with the security team to ensure patching, hardening, and threat protection are maintained.
• Ensure backup, replication and disaster recovery strategies are in place and always working.
• Monitor performance and availability of on-premise infrastructure across the UK.
• Apply best practices in identity and access management, including conditional access, MFA, and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Ensure compliance with standards including ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, and NIST frameworks.

Ideal Person:

• 3+ years of experience working in an IT Operations team, with a focus on Windows and Storage
• ITIL v4 Foundation
• Strong knowledge of: Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory / Azure AD / ADFS, Virtualisation (Hyper-V), HPE Servers, Backup, DR, and monitoring solutions, SCCM / SCVMM
• Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, CMD) and automation,
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (Firewalls, load balancers)
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (SolarWinds)
• Proficient in Microsoft operating systems and applications, including Windows Server 2016 to 2025, Windows 11, Microsoft Office 365.
• Strong knowledge and experience in Service Management / Service Desk tools to capture, manage, resolve and report on IT Service tickets (incidents, requests, problems, etc.)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment

Qualifications:

• Knowledge Cisco networks and firewalls.
• Hold the following certification or be willing to study for them:
• Microsoft Certified: (AZ-104) or (AZ-802) or (MCSA).
