Job summary

National Express is seeking an IT Infrastructure Specialist in Birmingham to maintain and evolve core infrastructure with AWS, Cisco networking and Google Workspace. You will support 2nd/3rd line requests and ensure systems run at peak performance.

The role involves managing AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch, configuring Cisco devices, and administering Google Workspace with security policies and app integrations. On-call rotation is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support for servers, networking devices, cloud environments, and apps.

• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco switches/routers for reliability.
• Administer Google Workspace, including provisioning, security, mail routing and app integrations.
• Follow ITIL procedures to document changes, respond to incidents within SLAs.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to address critical incidents.

In this role, you will be at the heart of our tech operations, maintaining, monitoring, and evolving our core infrastructure with a strong focus on AWS cloud services, Cisco networking, and Google Workspace. What you will actually be doing

• Maintain Core Tech: Provide hands‑on support for our servers, networking devices, cloud environments, and enterprise applications.
• Manage AWS Cloud: Support and optimize our Amazon Web Services setup, focusing on EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch.
• Keep Networks Running: Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco switches and routers to guarantee high availability and performance.
• Administer Google Workspace: Handle user provisioning, security policies, mail routing, and app integrations across our Google suite.
• Execute Change & Resolve Incidents: Follow ITIL procedures to document change requests, respond to incidents within SLAs, and proactively address system capacity issues.
• Be There When It Counts: Participate in an out‑of‑hours 24/7 on‑call rotation to tackle critical incidents when they arise.

What we need from you

• AWS Experience: 2+ years managing AWS infrastructure with a firm grasp of cloud security and operational best practices.
• Networking Proficiency: Solid hands‑on experience with Cisco switching, routing, and VLANs.
• Google Workspace: Experienced in administering Google Workspace
• Operating Systems: Administer and support Windows Server and Windows operating systems (Linux experience beneficial)
• ITIL Operations: 2nd/3rd line support experience backed by a solid understanding of Incident, Request, and Change Management.
• Problem Solving Mindset: Excellent diagnostic skills, clear communication, and the confidence to work under pressure.
• Desirable Extras: Certifications like AWS SysOps, CCNA, or ITIL Foundation, plus any experience with Palo Alto firewalls, SD-WAN, or scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
