Job summary

Kier Group is offering an Industrial Placement for a Civil Engineering student, based on the Sizewell C project in Ipswich, Suffolk. The role runs for 12 months, 40 hours per week, with starting salary of £27,976 per annum and a September 2027 start date. Location: Kier Main Compound, Off A12, Kelsale, Suffolk.

The placement provides mentorship, hands-on construction experience, and the potential to progress to a Graduate position after completion.

Qualifications

  • ICE-accredited Civil Engineering degree (or currently pursuing with placement option).
  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering degree with ICE accreditation sought.
  • Demonstrates motivation to pursue a career in civil construction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordination, design and on-site management of civil construction projects.
  • Support in tracking contractual and financial aspects of projects.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to project activities.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

What you will beresponsible for?

As an Industrial Placement Civil Engineer, you'll be assisting in the planning &coordination, design & management of construction projects and on-site activities in managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and develop a strong foundation in quantity surveying.

What will your day-to-day duties include?
  • Assisting in the planning, execution, and management of projects relevant to your field of study.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders to support project objectives.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform project decisions and strategies.
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and documentation related to project activities.
  • Participating in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving and decision-making processes.

What are we looking for?

We're on the lookout for students undertaking a degree in Civil Engineering, who have the option orrequirement to complete a placement year from 2027 - 2028. After your placement, you'll be returning to university with a graduation year of 2029.

  • Degree (or working towards a degree) which is ICE accredited in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrates a genuine interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering and the construction industry, with clear motivation to learn and develop professionally.
  • Demonstrates analytical and critical thinking to assess situations and problem solve with strong attention to detail.
  • Shows enthusiasm for learning new skills and knowledge, and the ability to adapt in response to feedback.
  • Works effectively as part of a team, demonstrating collaboration, reliability, and respect for others.
  • Hold a full UK driver license.
