Job summary

KAEFER UK & Ireland is hiring a Cost Engineer in Middlesbrough on a permanent basis. The role focuses on day-to-day commercial support across contracts, producing timely applications for payment and robust reporting.

You will liaise with Supervisors and Contract Managers to gather progress data and provide commercial guidance. The position requires a Quantity Surveying degree and prior commercial experience at an assistant/ administrator level, with strong Excel skills and a valid driver’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required.
• Experience at Assistant/Administrator level in commercial roles.
• Industrial Scaffold, Insulation & Painting experience in Petrochem/Power Generation advised.
• Knowledge of commercial controls, reporting, budgeting and contracts costing.
• Knowledge of Contract and Construction law and legislation.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is essential.
• Driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment with all substantiation.
• Produce and maintain cost value reports (CVRs), ELF and EVM where applicable.
• Engage with Operations to maximise project commercial position and attend site meetings.
• Support recovery of contract costs; identify variations, delays and claims.
• Assist subcontractor management from procurement through final account.
