Job summary

KAEFER UK & Ireland in Middlesbrough is seeking a Cost Engineer to provide day-to-day commercial support across listed contracts. You will produce applications for payment, manage CVRs/ELF/EVM reports, and liaise with Supervisors and Contract Managers to uphold commercial accuracy.

The role requires a Quantity Surveying degree, prior commercial experience, and strong Excel skills. Due for a permanent appointment, on-site work with potential for project-based site meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.
• Previous Commercial experience at a minimum Assistant/Administrator level.
• Industrial Scaffold, Insulation & Painting experience in a Petrochem / Power Generation environment.
• Knowledge of commercial controls and reporting and budgeting and contracts costing.
• Knowledge of Contract and Construction law and legislation.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to achieving deadlines.
• Good communication skills both oral and written and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Operational team to maximise project commercial potential and attend site meetings as needed.
• Update associated commercial reports and ensure knock-on effects are reported through correct channels.
• Collaborate with the Commercial Manager to interface with other departments and the customer.
• Produce and submit monthly applications for payments with all required substantiation on schedule.
• Generate robust, timely commercial reports including CVRs, ELF and EVM.
• Agree monthly AFPs with the customer and raise invoices promptly to reduce WIP and debt.
• Support recovery of contract costs and identify variations, delays and claims.
• Assist with subcontractor management from procurement to final account and contract administration.

We are looking for a Cost Engineer to join our team in Middlesbrough on a permanent basis. The main purpose of the role is to provide day-to-day commercial support across a portfolio of assigned contracts within the Industrial Division. This is a customer-facing role and you will be required to produce accurate applications for payment in line with the month end reporting schedule. Regular interaction with Supervisors and Contract Managers is essential for gathering progress and time records, along with providing commercial guidance. Thorough, timely and accurate commercial reporting will be integral to the role.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Work closely with the Operational team to maximise the potential of each project, attending site meetings when necessary to discuss the commercial position.
• Update any associated commercial reports and ensure any knock-on effects to the business unit are reporting back through the correct channels.
• Work with the Commercial Manager to ensure that the commercial function interfaces effectively with other departments and the customer.
• Produce and submit monthly applications for payments for assigned projects within the division, including all requisite substantiation, evidence and or any specified supporting documentation as required, ensuring always that they are completed and submitted in line with the prescribed contractual requirements and timescales.
• Produce robust, timely and accurate commercial reports in line with the company’s requirements, including but not limited to cost value reports (CVRs), end life forecasting (ELF) and earned value management (EVM).
• Agree the monthly AFPs with the customer and raise invoices in a timely manner to reduce WIP and debt exposure.
• Support and assist in the recovery of contract costs together with enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays and claims.
• Assist with subcontractor management, including initial procurement, value analysis and order placement, through to monitoring, measuring, valuing and agreeing the final account, ensuring that all process and procedure is followed, and the appropriate document and contract administration is maintained.
