Job summary

Grant Thornton UK LLP in Reading is seeking an Indirect Tax Associate Director to lead scoping, delivery and billing of client work, delivering high quality VAT advice across a diverse portfolio.

You will mentor junior staff, support Directors and Partners, and ensure compliance with risk management while driving profitability and client relationships in a collaborative, flexible hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Experience of VAT / Indirect Taxes in advisory or in-house roles.
• CTA/ATT or equivalent tax qualification.
• Ability to manage a varied portfolio of indirect tax clients.
• Excellent organisation and prioritisation to handle multiple clients.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build long-standing relationships.
• Ability to lead projects within a mixed-discipline team.
• Experience advising on complex indirect tax matters across VAT areas.

Responsibilities

• Lead scoping, delivery and billing of indirect tax client work.
• Mentor junior staff and coordinate with Directors and Partners.
• Provide technically accurate VAT/Indirect Tax advice with relevant legislation.
• Explain complex issues clearly to clients with varied tax knowledge.
• Produce work that requires minimal review and highlights key points.
• Review teammates' work for accuracy and quality.
• Ensure risk management and compliant onboarding to assignments.
• Manage billing, gross margin, utilization and WIP.
