Job summary

Empowering Learning in Derby is recruiting a teaching assistant to join a dedicated and supportive team at a special needs school. The role starts in September and runs through the new academic year, with classroom duties and off-site recreational activities.

You will work closely with the lead teacher to implement educational programs and support students with special needs, including those with autism, helping them develop academically and socially in a nurturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children, especially those with special needs.
  • Knowledge of special education practices.
  • Able to communicate with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail.
  • Patient, empathetic approach.
  • Able to adapt to changing situations and challenging behaviours.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement education health care plans for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
