Job summary

Empowering Learning is working with a special needs school in Burton upon Trent, recruiting a teaching assistant to join a dedicated and supportive team. The role starts in September and runs through the new academic year.

You will assist in classroom duties and in off-site recreational activities, supporting students with special needs and contributing to an inclusive learning environment. Excellent communication, patience and reliability are essential, with experience in autism or similar

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with special needs and challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
• Strong communication with students, parents and colleagues.
• Organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
• Adaptability to changing situations and handling challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities.
• Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
• Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
• Support students in their academic and social development.
• Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement education health care plans for students.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
• Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
