Job summary

New College Swindon is recruiting Inclusion Mentors to support learners with SEND and other needs. You will deliver personalised 1:1 and small group support to promote independence and inclusion, and work with teachers and external agencies to create inclusive learning environments.

Applicants should have experience with SEND, strong communication, and the ability to contribute to EHCPs and support plans while safeguarding learners’ welfare.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional learning needs.
• Understanding of inclusive practice and barriers to learning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve Level 2).
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.

Responsibilities

• Deliver personalised one-to-one and small group support for learners with SEND and additional learning needs.
• Empower learners to develop strategies that reduce barriers to learning and promote independence.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, curriculum teams, employers and external agencies to create inclusive learning environments.
• Carry out initial support needs assessments and contribute to individual support plans and EHCPs.
• Monitor learner progress, maintaining accurate records and ensuring support is tailored to individual needs.
• Provide advice and guidance to staff on reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice.
• Promote learner wellbeing, confidence and self-advocacy throughout their educational journey.
• Contribute to the continuous development of inclusive practice across the College.

What we're looking for:

• Experience supporting young people or adults with SEND, learning difficulties, disabilities or additional needs.
• A good understanding of inclusive practice and the barriers learners may experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve Level 2).
• SEND-related qualifications or professional development would be advantageous, although not essential.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and adults.
