Job summary

New College Swindon is recruiting Inclusion Mentors to support learners with SEND and additional needs, delivering one-to-one and small group assistance to help remove barriers to learning and foster independence.

You will collaborate with teachers and external agencies to ensure inclusive learning environments, conduct initial assessments, and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans while tracking progress and safeguarding learners.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional needs.
• Strong understanding of inclusive practice and barriers to learning.
• Knowledge of EHCPs or willingness to develop this knowledge.
• GCSEs in English and Maths at 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve Level 2).
• SEND-related qualifications or professional development would be advantageous.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of learners and adults.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to ongoing development of inclusive practice across the College.

What you'll do:

• Deliver personalised one-to-one and small group support for learners with SEND and additional learning needs.
• Empower learners to develop strategies that reduce barriers to learning and promote independence.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, curriculum teams, employers and external agencies to create inclusive learning environments.
• Carry out initial support needs assessments and contribute to individual support plans and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Monitor learner progress, maintaining accurate records and ensuring support is tailored to individual needs.
• Provide advice and guidance to staff on reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice.
• Promote learner wellbeing, confidence and self-advocacy throughout their educational journey.
• Contribute to the continuous development of inclusive practice across the College.

What we're looking for:

• Experience supporting young people or adults with SEND, learning difficulties, disabilities or additional needs.
• A good understanding of inclusive practice and the barriers learners may experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve Level 2).
• SEND-related qualifications or professional development would be advantageous, although not essential.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and adults.
