Job description

In House Counsel - Privacy Counsel - Commercial Data Protection - London

Our client, a well-known global organisation with an established in-house legal team, is seeking a Privacy Solicitor to join its Group Legal team. This dynamic role supports global operations on data protection, digital transformation, and privacy risk, offering the opportunity to work at the forefront of legal and regulatory change.

Reporting to the Group Privacy Counsel, you will provide legal advice on a broad range of privacy matters and collaborate with stakeholders in Digital, IT, Information Security, HR, Procurement, and other departments.

Your Key Responsibilities will include:
  1. Advising on data privacy issues, including compliance with GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act, and PECR.
  2. Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements, data transfer clauses, and privacy provisions in commercial contracts.
  3. Reviewing and advising on ROPAs, DPIAs, vendor assessments, and other privacy-related due diligence for digital and AI projects.
  4. Monitoring regulatory developments, including the EU AI Act, and advising the business on their implications.
  5. Supporting investigations and response planning for personal data breaches and cyber preparedness initiatives.
  6. Contributing to the development and implementation of data protection policies, training, and internal controls.
  7. Collaborating with business units across jurisdictions on privacy queries and compliance strategies.
About You:
  • You are a qualified solicitor with strong experience in data privacy law, ideally gained in-house or within financial institutions.
  • You have a solid understanding of GDPR, UK DPA, PECR, and exposure to the EU AI Act.
  • You are confident in drafting and negotiating privacy-related agreements and engaging with operational and technical teams.
  • You possess strong analytical and communication skills, capable of translating complex legal requirements into clear guidance.
  • You work well independently and within a team, are adaptable, proactive, and detail-oriented.
  • You have a genuine interest in data privacy and thrive at the intersection of legal insight and digital innovation.
