Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Sports & Behaviour Support Assistant to support both mainstream classroom learning and the school's Specialist Resource Base (SRB), working with pupils who have additional learning needs, at one of our partner secondary schools in the Newport area.

An interest in sport or physical activity is desirable and may be used to build relationships and promote emotional regulation.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people through coaching, mentoring, youth work, support work or SEN/ALN and challenging behaviour.
• Ability to implement behaviour management and de-escalation strategies effectively.
• Commitment to promoting engagement, confidence and emotional development.
• Dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Support mainstream classroom learning and the school's SRB with pupils who have additional learning needs.
• Use sport to enhance participation and wider school involvement where possible.
• Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour or emotional needs with consistency and encouragement.
• Possibility to cover PE and general lessons during staff absence and develop classroom leadership skills.
