Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd is recruiting a Behaviour Support Assistant with a passion for sport to join a specialist setting in South Shields. You will support pupils who may struggle with behaviour, using sport to break down barriers and build relationships.

The successful candidate will be sporty, energetic and calm under pressure, with the ability to mentor pupils 1:1 and in small groups, supporting emotional regulation and participation in lessons.

Qualifications

• Experience in sports coaching, youth work, mentoring or behaviour support.
• Strong ability to build relationships and manage emotions.
• Able to work 1:1 and in small groups.
• Passionate about helping young people to engage with lessons.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Develop strong, trusting relationships.

Protocol Education are recruiting a Behaviour Support Assistant with a passion for sport to join a specialist setting in South Shields.

The school is looking for someone who can bring energy, confidence and consistency to the role whilst supporting pupils who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Develop strong, trusting relationships.
• Use sport and physical activity as a tool for engagement.
• Mentor pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Encourage positive behaviour.
• Support emotional regulation.
• Help pupils manage conflict and frustration.
• Encourage pupils to participate in lessons.
• Support sporting activities and enrichment.
• Reinforce positive boundaries.
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.
