Job summary

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Radiology Support Worker to join the Radiology team across Queen Elizabeth Hospital and satellite centres. You will greet, prepare and escort patients, assist with procedures, and maintain a safe, compassionate environment for high-quality imaging services.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, support 7-day service, and contribute to efficient patient flow while upholding dignity and confidentiality in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE English and Maths.
• Experience of working in a team in a busy environment.
• Evidence of compassionate, patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Greet, prepare and escort patients, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.
• Assist patients with dressing/undressing and support those distressed.
• Provide basic care such as hydration and hygiene support.
• Assist with low-risk aseptic procedures (e.g. FNAs, ultrasound joints).
• Perform baseline observations under supervision and assist with manual handling.
• Offer reassurance and emotional support during potentially distressing procedures.
• Prepare and reset examination rooms and maintain infection control.
• Record episodes of care in RIS and update patient records.
• Support patient flow and escalate issues to senior staff.
• Restock stock and monitor expiry dates; participate in training.
