What you’ll be responsible for
As an Instrumentation and Control Automation (ICA) Technician you will be working closely with the water production teams to ensure our Water Treatment Works and Water pumping stations in the Neath and Swansea Valley area's are working successfully. A team player with the ability to build relationships quickly, you will provide support and guidance to carry out planned maintenance work and respond to breakdowns.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carry out planned maintenance on ICA equipment to ensure no breakdowns or reactive failures of equipment.
- Respond to breakdowns on a very wide variety of ICA equipment, assess problems, decide on action, acquire spares and carry out repairs as necessary.
- Recommend design changes, if necessary, to ensure that plant continues to function efficiently and effectively to maintain levels of service
- Programme PLC’s, telemetry and SCADA systems to efficiently control and monitor unmanned plant amend existing programmes in response to both faults and operational changes to optimise levels of service.
- Give technical advice to contractors on ICA design of small capital schemes to ensure correct operation.
- Implement and maintain the IMS procedures at all times to ISO standard. Ensure that all ICA equipment is calibrated by the procedure at defined frequencies and is auditable. Keep IMS records to ensure that they are satisfactory for internal and external audits
- Ensure the operation of all communication links to Production and Network outstations are always maintained and operable.
- Implement and maintain the Planned Maintenance System.
- Ensure compliance with the area’s planned maintenance schedule.

- Liaison and co-ordination of suppliers and contractors
- Liaison with NRW/EA Regulators and other stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Time Served apprenticeship in a relevant role – electronics, instrumentation or electrical or HNC or equivalent in Industrial measurement and control
- A full UK Driving licence.
- Ability to work alone and as a member of a team.
- IT literate in Microsoft Office applications including various App’s, training will be provided on the systems we use.
- Transferrable Experience to ensure full compliance and adherence to all H&S procedures.
- There will be a requirement to participate in a 1 in 4 standby rota covering an area from Carmarthen to Bridgend- up to £3,816 in additional earnings
- 260 hours of planned overtime with additional earning potential of up to £5,076 per year
- Full Drivers Licence required
