Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites two Consultants in Upper GI Surgery to develop Emergency General Surgery as part of a phased expansion. The role combines clinical patient care with leadership, teaching and service development across CEPOD and ambulatory pathways.

The post includes elective work to meet waiting list targets, with a commitment to high standards of governance and research activity within the Trust.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration.
• MBBS or equivalent.
• FRCS or equivalent.
• Specialist Upper GI training and logbook.
• Experience in laparoscopic Upper GI surgery.

Responsibilities

• Share responsibility for delivery of high‑quality care in the department.
• Examine and treat patients on the shop floor and support junior staff.
• Provide on‑call support out of hours and attend required shifts.
• Attend departmental, divisional and Trust meetings for governance.
• Participate in CME/CPD and annual job planning.
