Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting two Consultants in Upper GI with Emergency General Surgery to develop the EGS service as part of phased expansion. The role blends Emergency General Surgery with elective work to meet waiting targets, with a weekend on-call rota and a venue across Gloucestershire’s hospitals.

The successful candidates will join a team of 18 surgeons, share inpatient workload, and drive ambulatory pathways and hot clinics to reduce SAU attendances while

Qualifications

• Ability to appraise research critically and apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
• Ability to supervise junior staff undertaking research projects.
• Ability to manage risk.
• Commitment to CPD / CME.
• Experience in audit & clinical governance.
• Working knowledge of evidence based practice.
• Ability to teach clinical and operative skills.
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities

• Share responsibility for delivery of high-quality care in the department.
• Examine and treat patients on the shop floor.
• Support clinical decision-making of junior staff.
• Attend on-call commitments and out-of-hours rota.
• Lead and participate in ward rounds.
