Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Traffic Engineering Apprentice for the St Albans area, starting in 2027. You will work hybrid in the UK, gaining practical experience across the project lifecycle while studying towards a recognised qualification in Traffic Engineering.

You’ll support engineers in designing safer, more efficient transport networks and develop skills in CAD, modelling and data analysis through on-the-job learning and formal training.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including Mathematics and English at grade C/4 or above.
• Three A-Levels (or equivalent, such as BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering) including Mathematics and a physical science at grade C or above.
• Interest in traffic, transport or civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the industry.
• Aptitude for technical software, engineering design and drawing; familiarity with AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.
• Basic proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Interest in transport, sustainability and safer, accessible streets.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design drawings, plans and documentation using CAD and design software.
• Support development and delivery of traffic, highways and active travel schemes from concept to detailed design.
• Help collect, analyse and interpret traffic and transport data.
• Assist with highway, street and traffic engineering design including signage and road markings.
• Support traffic management and traffic signal design activities.
• Participate in site visits, surveys and inspections to gather information.
