Job summary

Crawley Borough Council is seeking a proactive Accommodation Acquisitions Officer on a two-year fixed-term contract. You will identify, negotiate and procure temporary accommodation from private landlords and providers to support households experiencing homelessness.

Working in a busy Housing Options team, you will ensure compliance with health and safety and housing standards while reducing reliance on emergency accommodation.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing or property management, lettings, acquisitions or related field.
• Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Knowledge of the private rented sector and housing legislation.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
• Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Identify and secure suitable temporary accommodation within and outside the borough.
• Build relationships with private landlords, managing agents and providers.
• Negotiate rental terms to meet value for money and council rules.
• Inspect properties to ensure standards and safety compliance.
• Collaborate with Housing Options Officers to match accommodation to needs.
• Monitor availability and maintain records and performance data.
• Help develop initiatives to increase temporary accommodation supply.
• Ensure properties comply with health and safety and licensing standards.
