Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Engineer (Structures) to support the delivery and maintenance of highway structures across the Bournemouth area. The role covers bridges, culverts, retaining walls and gantries, blending asset management with design and delivery.

Hybrid working includes at least one day per week in Bournemouth, with a planned start date of 5 October 2026. You will lead design, inspections and contract delivery across projects, coordinating consultants, contractors and staff while

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in highway structures, structural engineering design, construction or maintenance.
• Advanced understanding of relevant regulations, legislation, technical standards and engineering processes.
• Experience in contract and project management, including cost control, quality assurance and financial monitoring.
• Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation relating to structures, engineering, construction, maintenance and repairs.
• Ability to plan and manage projects and programmes involving colleagues, consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned maintenance and improvement programmes for a range of highway structures.
• Design and support highway structures schemes through all project lifecycle stages, from concept to construction.
• Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, tender documentation and pre-construction information.
• Undertake visual, general and principal inspections, using site information, desktop studies and asset management software.
• Develop planned programmes based on asset management priorities and structural condition.
• Manage contracts, project performance, cost, quality and compliance with technical standards and legal obligations.
• Supervise site-specific contract delivery teams and coordinate consultants, contractors and technical staff.
• Promote innovation in highway structures, engineering and asset management.
