Job summary

Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking an experienced Repairs & Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of responsive maintenance across the housing portfolio. The role focuses on safety, compliance and performance management, including contract oversight and procurement activity.

You will manage budgets, oversee contractors, and work with internal teams to deliver high-quality services that prioritise resident satisfaction and safe, well-maintained homes.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership and team-management abilities.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• In-depth understanding of statutory compliance, landlord obligations and building safety regulations.
• Experience in block management, residential property management or social/temporary accommodation management.
• Proven ability to manage contractors, SLAs, procurement processes and performance monitoring.
• Strong budget management skills with cost control reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of responsive maintenance services across the housing portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and health & safety requirements (fire safety, gas, electrical, legionella, building safety).
• Monitor repairs timescales, KPIs, contractor SLAs and performance.
• Manage departmental budgets, ensuring value for money.
• Oversee procurement, contract mobilisation and supplier management.
• Maintain communal areas to high, safe standards and focus on resident satisfaction.
