Job summary

University of the Built Environment is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services. You will focus on Python development and AI technologies to automate and transform business processes, working with stakeholders across the organisation.

You will contribute to design discussions, ensure secure coding practices, and drive rapid delivery through robust CI/CD pipelines, with a hybrid working model between Horizons Reading and home.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience (E, A).
• Evidence of continuing professional development in software engineering, Python development, and/or AI/ML (E, A, I).
• Strong knowledge of Python and contemporary software development frameworks and tools (E, A, I).
• Knowledge of cloud technologies, API design, integration patterns and distributed systems (D, A, I).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust software applications using Python and related technologies.
• Design and implement AI-enabled solutions with measurable business value.
• Work with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and design/execute automated test suites in CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure solutions comply with security, data protection and governance requirements.
• Undertake any other related duties commensurate with the role; some out of hours work may be required.
