Job summary

University of the Built Environment is actively seeking a Software Engineer to join our Technology team. The role splits between Horizons (Reading, Berkshire) and Home, offering a dynamic hybrid working pattern with salary between £40,000 and £45,000 per year plus benefits.

You will design, develop, test and maintain software applications using Python, while evaluating Generative AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot to accelerate delivery and innovation.

Qualifications

• Evidence of continuing professional development in software engineering, Python development, and/or AI/ML.
• Experience developing, integrating and supporting AI-enabled solutions, including generative AI, machine learning or LLM-based services.
• Software engineering skills with the ability to produce secure, maintainable and scalable code.
• Knowledge of Python and contemporary software development frameworks and tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust software applications using Python and related technologies
• Evaluate and integrate Generative AI technologies, including Microsoft Copilot and AI-assisted development tools
• Provide technical advice and guidance on software engineering and AI adoption opportunities
• Ensure solutions comply with organisational security policies and data protection requirements
