Job summary

John Lewis is seeking a Product Development Technologist in the Sourcing & Technical Profession to manage safety, legality, quality, and sustainability across the product life cycle. You will ensure compliance with technical standards and policies across multiple categories while maintaining a customer focus to create industry-leading products.

You will manage supplier/factory technical relationships and lead improvements to product and process.

Qualifications

• Experience in a technical role in retail or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of product regulations and safety standards.
• Strong ability to interpret designs and briefing new products.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compliant, safe, legal and high-quality product assortments.
• Set and communicate product specifications and standards; interpret designs.
• Develop and implement the technical strategy into category plans.
• Review and approve development against agreed standards.
• Test and certify compliance; maintain up-to-date technical files.
• Support end-to-end product development from concept to delivery.
• Drive continuous supplier performance improvements.
• Analyse product insight, horizon scanning and benchmarking.
• Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure compliance and reduce defects.
• Manage raw material sustainability data and support tenders and reviews.
