Job summary

SONI in Belfast seeks a Power System Evolution Engineer to support the all-island and Northern Ireland policy roadmap toward 100% renewable electricity by 2035. You will undertake technical modelling and analysis, focusing on dynamic stability, system strength and reserve and ramping requirements.

The role requires collaborating with EirGrid, forecasting needs up to 10 years, and developing internal capability in System Services while ensuring documentation aligns with the roadmap.

Qualifications

• University degree in engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Technical knowledge of generation, demand and enabling technologies in the power system.
• Experience in power system analysis with modelling tools (PLEXOS, PSSE, PowerFactory, DSA, Matlab).
• Proficiency in Python, R and Excel for large data sets.

Responsibilities

• Dynamic modelling of the Northern Ireland and all-island power system.
• Forecast reserve and ramping requirements up to 10 years out.
• Deliver statutory and EU-mandated assessments.
