Job summary

CMR Surgical in Cambridge is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the System Development team's Mechanical Engineering Group. The role focuses on robust mechanical design, prototyping, and manufacturability across electromechanical systems such as the Versius robotic platform.

You will design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, build and test prototypes, and contribute to design reviews and release documentation. A strong background in mechanical engineering and DFx is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical design fundamentals
• Reason from first principles and perform design calculations
• Experience developing mechanical parts and assemblies for complex products
• SolidWorks capability with solid and surface modelling
• Experience designing parts and drawings for machining, sheet metal and injection moulding
• Prototype development and testing experience
• Clear technical documentation such as test reports and design reviews
• Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
• Cross-functional collaboration and clear communication of design decisions

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design solutions for new products and features within design control procedures
• Develop manufacturable mechanical solutions across machining, sheet metal and injection moulding
• Design mechanical parts and assemblies in SolidWorks with clear design intent
• Build, test and evaluate prototypes, rigs and fixtures to reduce technical risk
• Produce engineering drawings and supporting documentation for release and change control
• Write technical reports to support design reviews and verification activities
• Investigate product issues and implement corrective actions to improve performance
• Develop and improve departmental tools, processes, and engineering methods
