Job summary

CMR Surgical is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the System Development team in Cambridge. The role focuses on strong design fundamentals, problem-solving and practical manufacturing experience, contributing to the Versius robotic system.

You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, building robust mechanical solutions and evolving designs from first principles, with a hybrid office-based setup requiring three days per week on site.

Qualifications

• Develop mechanical or electromechanical products from first principles
• Solid understanding of design calculations and trade-offs
• Experience with design-for-manufacture across machining, sheet metal, and molding
• Proficient in creating clear design intent in CAD and drawings
• Experience building, testing, or evaluating prototypes to reduce risk
• Ability to produce technical reports and change control documentation
• Able to troubleshoot root causes and implement corrective actions
• Strong communication with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design solutions for new products and features
• Apply design-for-manufacture principles across processes
• Design mechanical parts and assemblies in SolidWorks
• Build, test and evaluate prototypes and fixtures
• Produce and maintain design definitions and release documentation
• Write technical reports supporting design reviews and verification
• Investigate issues and implement corrective actions
• Improve departmental tools, processes and methods
