Job summary

Preston City Council is seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer (Civil and Criminal) to join a collaborative Legal Section. You will manage a mixed caseload, conduct court advocacy and provide pragmatic legal advice to senior officers.

Experience in local authorities and private practice transfer is valued. The role offers hybrid working, a flexi-time scheme, a minimum of 30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, and a range of employee benefits including a pension scheme and professional fees

Qualifications

• Must have recognised legal qualification ( solicitor, barrister or ILEX) or equivalent experience.
• Experience handling a wide and varied range of litigation matters.
• Ability to provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to a variety of audiences.

Responsibilities

• Handle enforcement of regulatory matters and both criminal and civil litigation.
• Conduct advocacy in Court and manage Counsel as required.
• Provide specialist legal advice to help the Council deliver priorities lawfully and effectively.
