Job summary

Fletchers Solicitors is seeking a lead backend engineer to own the backend systems, services and infrastructure powering our AI tools, reporting to the Director of AI. You’ll shape architecture, mentor engineers, and drive adoption while collaborating with internal users and external firms.

The role blends hands-on delivery with technical leadership, enabling rapid iteration and scaling of AI-enabled legal tools for personal injury and clinical negligence work.

Qualifications

• Strong degree qualification in a STEM subject from a top-tier university.
• Experience owning the backend of production systems and defining backend architecture.
• Leadership experience including mentoring engineers and code review.
• Comfortable working with users and customers, including pre-sale and onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Own backend architecture across core projects and lead on infrastructure and architecture design decisions.
• Own infrastructure, site reliability, and disaster recovery for production systems.
• Review code, mentor engineers, and establish best practices across the team.
• Grow the engineering team from 10 to 20+ with the right structures and processes.
• Collaborate with internal users and external customers across pre-sale, setup and integrations.
