Fletchers Solicitors is expanding its AI initiative in a lead backend engineering role. You will own the backend systems and infrastructure that power live AI tools, while mentoring the team and collaborating with internal users and external clients.

The position offers hybrid working with regular Manchester/London coordination and a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. Based near London or Manchester, you will drive architectural decisions, ensure reliability, and partner across product,

Qualifications

• Strong degree qualification in a STEM subject from a top-tier university.
• Strong professional experience in software development, ideally backend with Python.
• Track record of owning the backend of production systems.
• Experience defining backend architecture, standards, and setting technical direction.
• Experience leading development efforts or acting as a technical lead, including reviewing code and mentoring.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with users and customers, including in pre-sale, onboarding and integration.
• Based near London or Manchester; role can be primarily remote with regular in-person meetings.
• Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Own backend systems, services and infrastructure enabling AI tools from development to deployment.
• Provide technical leadership, set standards, shape architecture and mentor engineers.
• Lead the backend team growth from 10 to 20+ with scalable processes and structures.
• Collaborate with internal users and external firms on integrations and adoption.
• Maintenance of alignment with product, data science, infrastructure and legal teams.
