Job summary

EXL is seeking a senior Data Modeller to design, develop and maintain enterprise data models and ensure data is structured, governed and optimised for analytics across the organisation.

You will translate business requirements into scalable data models, define mappings, and collaborate with stakeholders to align data architecture with standards and best practices. The role requires strong leadership and communication skills in a hybrid UK setting.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years industry implementation experience with data modelling tools such as Erwin, ERStudio, Power Designer.
• Minimum of 8 years of data architecture, data modelling or similar experience
• 2-3 years of management experience required
• 3-5 years consulting experience preferred
• Experience working with dimensionally modelled data
• Understanding of cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake preferred) and on premises architectures
• Strong SQL skills required; scripting preferred
• Experience with major DBs (RDS, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.) and Big Data platforms
• Understanding of data integration best practices and concepts
• Experience mentoring junior team members and promoting data modelling best practices

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into scalable data models that support long-term objectives.
• Design, develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models with best practices.
• Partner with development, architecture and business teams to define data strategies and mappings.
• Develop and maintain metadata, data dictionaries and governance documentation.
• Optimize and enhance data models to support new initiatives and improve performance.
• Define and promote data modelling standards and naming conventions.
• Identify opportunities to reuse data models and data assets for efficiency.
• Reverse engineer databases and SQL scripts to produce accurate models and documentation.
• Assess models for quality, integrity, performance, and alignment with requirements.
• Analyze data integration challenges and propose scalable solutions across systems.
• Provide technical guidance on data modelling, database design and integration approaches.
• Review designs to improve scalability and maintainability.
• Contribute to enterprise data architecture, data movement strategies and governance frameworks.
• Ensure deliverables comply with enterprise standards and policies.
• Collaborate with project managers, stakeholders and clients throughout project lifecycle.
