Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council's technology team is seeking a Network Security Engineer to monitor, support, and secure the council’s network across 65+ locations. The role involves collaboration with infrastructure and security leads, on-site and remote work, and a focus on maintaining a secure, resilient environment.

You will manage security controls, coordinate incident responses, support audits, and drive endpoint patching and vulnerability remediation to protect critical public services.

Qualifications

• Technology-related degree or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years in a relevant role.
• Experience with network and cyber security tools from major vendors (e.g., Microsoft, Juniper, Fortinet, Sophos).
• Experience coordinating incidents with 3rd parties and changes.
• Working knowledge of ITIL processes and service desk operations.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day monitoring and support of council network and cyber security services, on-site and remote.
• Plan and document improvements for resiliency and security, proposing changes as needed.
• Serve as escalation point for network, security, and infrastructure incidents.
• Coordinate reporting of security/network incidents for audits and governance.
• Support remediation activities from penetration tests and certifications (Cyber Essentials, PSN, PCI).
• Maintain endpoint patching, antivirus, OS and hardware updates across devices.
