Job summary

Gallagher Bassett's in-house Strata Solicitors is seeking a Casualty Defence Claims Handler to own a portfolio of EL/PL claims, from first notification to settlement, in a hybrid UK role based from either Tamworth or Blisworth.

You will collaborate with insurers, brokers, and specialists to deliver timely, commercially focused outcomes while upholding service standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience handling EL/PL claims within insurers/TPA/law firm/defence environment.
• Understanding of personal injury, liability principles, and relevant legislation.
• Self-motivated and proactive.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to multitask.
• Flexibility to work additional hours when required.
• Eligible to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of EL/PL claims from first notification to settlement.
• Set up and acknowledge new claims promptly with clients.
• Conduct liability investigations and gather evidence (statements, records, training documents).
• Liaise with insured clients, brokers, witnesses, medical professionals, and third parties.
• Accurately reserving files and reviewing reserves regularly.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants, insurers, and legal firms.
• Assess quantum using guidelines, medical evidence and case law.
• Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate appropriately.
• Ensure compliance with Pre-Action Protocols for EL/PL claims.
• Prepare clear file summaries, reports and recommendations for clients and senior management.
• Support Claims Managers and the Defence Operations Manager as needed.
