Job summary

Reed Accountancy in the Brentwood area is recruiting for a Sales Ledger/Billing & Invoice Clerk to support the end-to-end billing cycle. The role is hybrid (2 days in the office, 3 days working from home) and focuses on producing accurate invoices and resolving billing issues.

The successful candidate will manage client billing applications, chase subcontractors for documentation, and provide cost-recovery analysis to safeguard margins.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
• Studying towards an accountancy qualification (desirable).
• Intermediate Excel skills.
• Experience in Sales Ledger or billing‑focused finance role.
• Able to meet tight deadlines with attention to detail.
• Confident with Excel and accounting systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
• Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete billing process and produce accurate client invoices.
• Support daily client billing applications and update trackers.
• Proactively chase subcontractors for required documentation and invoices.
• Capture out‑of‑scope and chargeable costs on client systems.
• Review reactive applications for accuracy, compliance, and mark‑ups.
• Protect margins by correct application of mark‑ups on reactive works.
• Support supplier reviews and process improvements.
• Provide analysis and reporting on cost recovery ratios and risks.
• Resolve rejected or disputed works to enable payment.
• Troubleshoot billing discrepancies and support system development.
• Act as liaison between Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Third Parties and IT.
• Ensure billing complies with internal controls and client requirements.
