Job summary

SCG Connected in Melton (Hybrid) is seeking a Software Engineer to help build infrastructure for next-generation call experiences and data insights for NHS customers. The role involves real-time voice agents, orchestration between Telephony, STT, LLMs and TTS, and data pipelines for call analysis.

You will work on greenfield projects in a multi-disciplined team with responsibilities spanning API development, tooling for LLMs, and reliability/testing.

Qualifications

• Strong backend programming experience, with Go (Golang) preferred; willingness to cross-train from C++/Java/Rust/Python.
• Experience consuming RESTful APIs and JSON.
• Practical experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and concepts like Context Windows, RAG, System Prompts.
• Understanding of asynchronous programming and WebSockets.
• Several years’ industry experience.
• Team player with initiative.

Responsibilities

• Work within a small agile team to solve technical challenges, develop new functionality and improve products and services.
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and tasks.
• Participate in architectural and design discussions and diagnose complex issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to progress and report on projects and tasks.
• Building Voice Agents: Developing and maintaining our Go-based Voice Agent.
• API Development: Contributing to our unified AI API gateway between telephony products and AI providers.
• Tool Creation: Developing Tools (Function Calling) for LLMs to interact with real-world data (RAG) and clinical integrations.
• Data Insights: Building pipelines to transcribe and analyze historical call recordings for sentiment, summaries, and outcomes.
• Prompt Engineering: Refining system prompts for safety, accuracy, and empathy in healthcare.
• Learning and Development: Keeping up with AI landscape and prototyping new models.
• Operations: Potentially contribute to AI infrastructure for self-hosted models.
• Testing & Validation: Developing tooling to assist testing against provider models to optimise quality and cost.
