Job summary

Neath Port Talbot Council is hiring for a Control Room Operator to monitor the trunk road and motorway network across South Wales on a 24/7 basis, coordinating incident response and information dissemination.

Based in Coryton, you will contribute to safer, greener journeys and will benefit from a Total Reward Package, including a starting salary of £28,608 rising to £32,046, plus a 15.3% employer pension contribution and generous holiday entitlements.

Responsibilities

• To monitor the trunk road and motorway network and tunnels on a 24/7 basis in order to continually assess network conditions and take actions as necessary.
• Dissemination of information through a variety of mediums at the operator’s disposal to enable safer, more reliable journeys on the network.
• To reduce incident related congestion and the likelihood of secondary incidents by responding to, and managing incidents, hazards and collisions on the network (including within tunnels).
• Dispatch and logging of Welsh Government Traffic Officers actions. Supporting events in Wales (Major sporting events, concerts etc) through disseminating information.
• Recording, logging and reporting of all monitored or reported incidents on the trunk road and motorway network and tunnels.
• To provide an effective and professional support role to the Police and other agencies To represent the Welsh Government by projecting a positive and professional image which reinforce the Welsh Governments’ values.
• To promote and build good working relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure that the common goals of reducing incident related congestion is achieved Supporting Trunk Road Agent (TRA) responsibilities.
• Reporting of defects or equipment failures as they become apparent and functional testing of repaired equipment.
• Applications may be submitted in Welsh, applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
