Job summary

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is seeking an HVDC Converter Station Engineer to design, develop and deliver HVDC converter station systems across major energy infrastructure projects in the UK and Europe.

You will work with OEMs and partners, review designs, support the Development Consent Order process and contribute to tender evaluations, with a clear path to specialist expertise in HVDC technology within a collaborative engineering team.

Qualifications

• A degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, HVDC, or related.
• Interest in power transmission and major infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of HVDC, converter stations, substations or protection systems is desirable.
• Ability to analyse technical information and communicate with stakeholders.
• Proactive, strong problem-solving and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and assurance of converter station requirements from concept through delivery.
• Provide technical support during the DCO process and responses to technical queries.
• Collaborate with OEMs, consultants and partners to meet GB Grid Code and project specs.
• Review designs, studies, reports and proposals to resolve engineering challenges.
• Support interfaces across converter technology, grid connection, cable, civil, control and project teams.
• Participate in design reviews, factory acceptance testing, site testing and commissioning.
• Support integration of protection and control systems and third-party interfaces.
• Contribute to tender evaluations and future technology selections.
