Job summary

National Grid Ventures is seeking an HVDC Converter Station Engineer to shape the technology behind UK interconnectors and offshore assets. You will contribute to the design, development and delivery of HVDC converter station systems on major projects, collaborating with industry partners and suppliers.

You will gain specialist expertise in HVDC technology while working with a global engineering network, contributing to safe and efficient project delivery and adherence to technical standards.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, HVDC, Control Systems or related discipline.
• Interest in power transmission and major infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of HVDC, converter stations, substations or protection/control systems (desirable).
• Ability to analyse technical information and communicate with stakeholders; proactive learner.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and assurance of converter station requirements from concept to delivery.
• Provide technical support during the DCO process and respond to technical queries.
• Work with OEMs, consultants and partners to demonstrate GB Grid Code conformance.
• Review designs, studies and proposals to resolve engineering challenges during delivery.
• Support interfaces across converter technology, grid connection, civil, control and wider teams.
• Participate in design reviews, factory/testing, site testing and commissioning.
