Job summary

Taylor Hopkinson is seeking an HVDC Cable Engineer for a major offshore wind developer operating in Europe. The role centers on technical assessment of HVDC cable systems, including joints, terminations and interfaces, with responsibilities spanning design reviews and documentation analysis.

The candidate will engage with manufacturers, coordinate across international teams and ensure alignment with project milestones and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical or power engineering or a comparable discipline.
• English at C1 level and EU work authorisation.
• 5+ years in HV cable design, engineering, qualification, testing or commissioning.
• Experience with HVDC cable systems, accessories, joints, terminations and station connections.
• Experience coordinating with manufacturers, contractors and EPCs in international projects.

Responsibilities

• Technical assessment and development of HVDC cable system concepts, including cables, joints, terminations, accessories and station interfaces.
• Review of engineering, manufacturing, installation and test documentation from cable manufacturers and contractors.
• Assess cable design, material, process and supplier changes and their impact on performance.
• Evaluate system stresses from grid operation and switching events, translating to testing requirements.
• Develop and review qualification and verification concepts, including type tests and FAT/SAT.
• Coordinate technically across cable manufacturers, jointing specialists, converter suppliers, grid planning, QA and commissioning teams.
• Perform supplier and quality audits, resolve deviations, track open items and prepare decision papers.
