Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Craftsperson Assistant to inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment, travelling between substations in our company electric vehicle and working mainly solo to keep the network safe and reliable.

You’ll be based within a 30-minute commute of Taunton TA4/TA6 and travel across Somerset for routine substation inspections, following digital work instructions on an iPad and using tools with confidence.

Qualifications

• Experience in inspecting/checking equipment in industrial settings.
• Ability to work autonomously to targets and safety procedures.
• Keen eye for detail and reporting issues.
• Proficient with laptops and iPads for digital work instructions.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment at substations.
• Travel between substations in company vehicle.
• Provide site access for 3rd party contractors.
• Follow digital work instructions on iPad and use tools with confidence.
