Job summary

National Grid is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to service high-voltage equipment across substations. You’ll travel between sites in a company vehicle, inspecting and maintaining assets to keep the UK’s power flowing and ensuring safety and reliability.

The role is outdoor and self-directed, following digital work instructions on an iPad, with training, tools, PPE provided, and a pathway to a long-term career in the energy sector.

Qualifications

• Worked in an industrial or operational environment, have practical skills for inspecting/checking equipment.
• Can work on your own to targets and deadlines, experience of working to safety procedures.
• Keen eye for detail - flagging when something isn’t right.
• You can use a laptop and iPad - to follow digital work instructions.
• Full UK driving licence.
• You live within 30 minutes of Thorpe Marsh, DN3 1ET.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment across substations.
• Travel between substations in a company electric vehicle.
• Provide access on sites for 3rd party contractors.
• Follow digital work instructions on an iPad.
• Work mainly by yourself focusing on your own responsibilities and productivity.
