BRUSH Group's BRUSH Power Solutions is seeking an HV Estimator to price work from enquiry to submission for 11 kV to 132 kV projects, including substations, cabling and switchgear. You'll own cost build-up from drawings to bid.

Based in Hook Office with hybrid 3 days in office, 2 days at home; you will collaborate with Design, Engineering, Procurement and Operations to deliver accurate tenders ahead of deadlines.

Qualifications

• An HNC, HND or degree in electrical engineering desirable; extensive hands-on operational experience essential.
• Ability to build a price from first principles and explain the number reached.
• Comfortable with drawings, SLDs and specifications, and able to turn them into a full cost model.
• Experience pricing HV work in ICP/DNO/IDNO contexts.
• Good knowledge of G81, NERS/ICP requirements and DNO/IDNO specs.

• Spot the risks, the programme pinch-points and the places we can save money and document them.
• Put together the priced schedule, a project summary and the internal pack for internal approval.
• Liaise with Design, Engineering, Procurement and Operations while the price is being built.
• Help with responding on any bid queries and ensure on-time tender submission.
• Achieve the tender return date and complete a tender handover to delivery team.
• Keep to BRUSH commercial, safety and quality standards on every submission.

What's the role?

Reporting into the Estimating manager, the HV Estimator role prices the work that takes BRUSH Power Solutions from enquiry to a winning, deliverable bid. Most of it sits between 11 kV and 132 kV — substations, connections, cabling and the associated electrical plant/equipment.

It is a permanent seat in a busy tendering team, supporting a strong pipeline of DNO, IDNO, industrial and renewable work. The estimator owns the number from first look at the drawings through to submission. That means a clean cost build-up, an honest view of risk, and a bid that Design and Operations can actually build if awarded.

Working Conditions

The role will be based from our Hook Office (Bartley Point) on a hybrid working basis (typically 3 days office 2 days home working). 40 contractual hours per week Monday - Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take a job from enquiry to submission and build the price from first principles — plant, materials, labour, plant hire, prelims, subcontract and risk.
• Ability to read the drawings, SLDs and specifications and be clear about what is in, what is out, and what we are assuming — including G81, DNO / IDNO and ENA requirements.
• Price the scope of works: substations, cable routes, transformers and switchgear, protection and control, civils interfaces, connections and commissioning.
• Go out to the supply chain, check the quotes, challenge them when they don’t look right, and keep our rates and supplier relationships current.
• Spot the risks, the programme pinch-points and the places we can save money — and write them down so nobody is surprised later.
• Put together the priced schedule, a project summary and the internal pack for internal approval.
• Liaise with Design, Engineering, Procurement and Operations while the price is being built
• Help with responding on any bid queries
• Achieve the tender return date.
• Support any post-tender meetings requests and complete a tender handover to the delivery team.
• Keep to BPS commercial, safety and quality standards on every submission

What we’re looking for:

• An HNC, HND or degree in electrical engineering (or related discipline) desirable however extensive hands-on operational experience demonstrating an equivalent level of technical capability is essential
• Ability to build a price from first principles and can show how the number was reached.
• Comfortable with drawings, SLDs and specifications, and able to turn them into a full cost model.
• Ability to challenge a number that doesn’t feel right and captures any assumptions made.
• Able to manage live tenders at various bid stages.
• Able to explain and present the work produced both internally and externally.
• Build good relationship with key stakeholders both internal and external.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Proven experience of HV pricing work in an ICP, DNO, IDNO, OEM solutions or principal-contractor setting.
• Has priced 33 kV and / or 132 kV jobs — substations, connections, cabling or similar — and can talk through how it was done.
• Working knowledge of G81, NERS / ICP requirements and DNO / IDNO specifications.
• Experience working with supply chain teams and working with design and delivery teams against a tender clock.
• Desirable, not essential: BESS, solar, data centre, industrial or rail HV connections.
• Desirable, not essential: transmission or EHV packages, and framework call-off pricing.
