Job summary

The Education Network Birmingham is seeking a Humanities Teacher to work in a specialist Alternative Provision in Dudley. You will teach Humanities to Key Stage 3 and 4 and cover some English with pre-planned lessons, within a structured setting focused on individual progress and personal development.

You will join a supportive team, with small class sizes and strong pastoral support, enabling you to tailor teaching to each student’s needs and help them re-engage with education for their next

Qualifications

  • QTS required and GCSE Humanities teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching Humanities at GCSE.
  • Ability to engage students who may have disengaged from mainstream education.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in Alternative Provision, SEMH or SEND advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Humanities to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students.
  • Planning and delivering engaging and appropriately differentiated lessons.
  • Supporting students who may have SEMH needs and barriers to learning.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Managing behaviour calmly, consistently and effectively.
  • Encouraging students to re-engage with education and develop confidence.
  • Monitoring progress and adapting teaching to individual needs.
  • Working closely with pastoral staff and the wider school team.
  • Supporting students to develop the skills and knowledge needed for their next steps.

Humanities Teacher - Alternative Provision

Are you a passionate Humanities Teacher looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference to young people who may have faced barriers to learning? The Education Network Birmingham is working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Dudley to recruit a dedicated Humanities Teacher for a long-term supply position.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys building positive relationships with students and creating engaging lessons that help young people reconnect with education. The school provides a structured and supportive environment for students who may have struggled in mainstream education, with a strong focus on individual progress, behaviour and personal development.

You will teach Humanities across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering accessible and engaging lessons in subjects such as History, Geography and related Humanities topics. There is also a requirement to cover some English lessons where the lessons have already been planned. You will be supported by an experienced team and benefit from a setting where smaller class sizes allow you to really get to know your students and tailor your teaching to their needs.

The Role

The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching Humanities at GCSE
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to engage students who may have become disengaged from mainstream education
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Previous experience within Alternative Provision, SEMH or SEND would be advantageous
