Job description

Closing Date: 4pm Friday 20th November 2026

Interview Date: Thursday 3rd December - in person

Are you an experienced HR professional looking for a varied generalist role where you can make a real impact? We’re looking for a confident and approachable Human Resources Officer to provide practical HR advice and support across the organisation, while helping us deliver an accurate and effective HR and payroll service.

What you’ll be doing

No two days are the same in this role. You'll be a trusted point of contact for managers and employees, providing practical advice and guidance on a wide range of HR matters and helping to find positive solutions to workplace challenges.

A key part of the role will be managing the monthly payroll cycle. Working closely with our outsourced payroll provider, you'll be responsible for coordinating payroll activity, ensuring all employee data and payroll information is accurate, checking payroll reports, resolving queries and meeting critical deadlines. You'll take pride in ensuring colleagues are paid correctly and on time every month and that payroll processes remain compliant and efficient.

You'll maintain accurate employee records within our HR systems, produce workforce reports and people data analytics, and provide meaningful insights that support workforce planning and organisational decision-making. You'll also contribute to the ongoing development of HR policies, procedures and people practices.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be CIPD Level 3 qualified with at least three years’ experience working within a generalist HR service, including experience of administering an outsourced payroll service. You’ll be comfortable providing first-line HR advice to managers and employees and using HR systems to manage workforce information, produce reports and analyse data.

You’ll have excellent attention to detail and understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and GDPR compliance. You’ll be proactive, collaborative and comfortable managing competing priorities and working to deadlines. A CIPD Level 5 qualification and experience using IRIS Cascade HR Information System would be advantageous but aren’t essential.

The role is subject to a Basic DBS check and requires a current valid driving licence and access to an appropriately insured and MOT’d vehicle.

What we can offer in return:
  • 32 days annual leave plus bank holidays

  • Holiday purchase scheme – buy up to an additional 5 days holiday per year

  • Holiday buy back scheme – bdht will buy up to 10 days holiday back from staff

  • Team budget every year to enjoy an afternoon out as a team

  • Electric vehicle leasing scheme through Octopus Energy

  • Pension scheme – defined contributions pension administered by the Social Housing Pension Scheme (SHPS)

  • Life insurance is available to members of the pension scheme

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Mental Health First Aiders

  • Healthcare Cash Back Scheme – Healthshield

  • Retail discounts scheme

  • Long Service Awards (given at 1 year, 5 years and in increments of 5 years following this)

  • Reimbursement for professional subscription fees

  • Corporate Sponsorship opportunities

  • Reimbursement for HRT pre-paid certificates

  • Reimbursement for annual flu jab

  • Free parking and refreshments

  • Monthly staff compliments raffle

  • Wellbeing calendar of events throughout the year
